Bombardier are the World’s leading business jet and military aircraft manufacturer, building and maintaining peak performing aircraft for private use, businesses and government. Located across multiple locations globally, their London service centre situated in Biggin Hill is their largest European site where we have just commissioned a 1.25 MW rooftop system. London Metric, Bombardier’s landlord, introduced Zestec to Bombardier to explore ways in which we could help them reduce their carbon emissions and transition to clean energy. Developed under our fully funded PPA model, Bombardier’s solar array is set to generate c.1,133,000 kWh of electricity a year, reducing 255 tonnes of carbon.
With chosen install partner, UPOWA, Zestec worked closely with Bombardier to deploy this system, with strategic planning in place to ensure that the airport’s privacy restrictions were protected and their day-to-day processes were not disrupted. Airport solar comes with many additional considerations. The resulting weather conditions from being in an open space made the unpacking and installation process of the panels particularly tricky. Risk of FOD and bird intrusion at the airport required specific expertise in designing and installing, and future proofing of the system. Zestec and UPOWA successfully delivered the project to the high specs required. With little to no disruption to the airport from the install, Bombardier are now generating clean energy on site and have taken a huge step in transitioning to a green future.
