on the edge of the South Downs National Park

Project Overview

Zestec were approached in 2019 to support the College with the installation of a ground mount solar PV farm adopting the fully funded Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) model. As an environmentally conscious educational institution, the primary objectives of generating on-site electricity were to significantly reduce the college’s carbon footprint, generate clean and sustainable electricity to offset their energy consumption at a fixed lower cost, and educate students and the wider community about the advantages of renewable energy.

How we helped

Zestec’s approved partner, Solar Advanced Systems, designed and installed the high-quality solar PV system for the college, carefully optimising energy production and efficiency within the available space. Since installing the 220 kWp system, the college have been paying 32% less for their electricity than they were paying under their grid tariff. Within the first year, they saved 60 tonnes of carbon emissions. Under the PPA model, all of this has been achieved without any capital outlay to Brinsbury college.
