Zestec Renewable Energy has funded and delivered a major solar project at Glasgow Airport.

The infrastructure of 10.15MWp is now operational and generating renewable electricity to support the airport’s energy needs.

Located on eight acres of airport land, the solar farm comprises more than 14,300 photovoltaic (PV) panels. And with the electricity it generates, the installation is expected to meet around 25% of Glasgow Airport’s on-site energy demand, helping reduce its reliance on grid electricity and supporting its sustainability & ESG strategy.

The project represents a big step towards integrating more renewable energy into the airport’s operations, demonstrating how existing land can be used to generate clean electricity at scale.

Better energy resilience with on-site renewable generation

We funded and delivered the solar infrastructure in partnership with Ikigai, who supported Glasgow Airport to develop the on-site generation concept and our installation partners RSK Renewables and OCS. With the infrastructure now energised, the focus moves to the long-term management and optimisation of the asset to help the airport make the most of the renewable electricity it generates.

The project is expected to save approximately 1,100 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (TCO₂e) based on grid electricity emissions per year. By generating electricity on-site, Glasgow Airport reduces its exposure to grid-supplied energy while making progress towards its environmental objectives.

The project shows how critical infrastructure with high energy demands can use on-site solar generation to support their sustainability goals while making productive use of available land. Our funded model support organisations to benefit from solar electricity with no upfront cost through a long-term electricity supply agreement known as a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA).

Long-term partnership for lasting value

Delivering the infrastructure is just one part of the commitment. Our asset team will continue to deliver mutual value through the ongoing management and optimisation of the solar farm.

This project reflects our approach to commercial renewable energy: adding value to businesses by contributing to their broader energy transition through funding and delivering a long-term renewable energy infrastructure that meets their needs.

As businesses look for practical ways to manage energy costs and reduce emissions, projects like this demonstrate the role that large-scale solar infrastructure can play in supporting a more sustainable and resilient energy future.
