We’re proud to announce our new partnership with Co-op, one of the UK’s largest retailers. This collaboration will kickstart the deployment of up to 30MW of rooftop solar installations across as many as 700 UK sites.
The initiative is part of Co-op’s ongoing commitment to reduce its carbon footprint in line with the company’s ambition to achieve net zero by 2035. Under our Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) model, we will use our expertise to design, develop, fund, and actively manage rooftop solar PV systems across key Co-op locations in the UK, meaning Co-op will benefit from clean onsite generation without upfront capital costs.
With the first phase underway, together with our delivery partner Custom Solar Limited, we’re identifying c.25 initial sites in Co-op’s logistics portfolio to deploy up to 1MW of solar PV.
Toby Smith, our COO said:
“We’re thrilled to be supporting Co-op on this important programme. This key milestone shows how funded on-site PPAs are a powerful way to make meaningful and scalable inroads towards net zero. As part of the Octopus Energy group, Zestec will provide the funding, development, and operational management of this solar portfolio. We look forward to working with the teams and turning this important ambition into a reality.”
Heather Thomas, Group Property & Sustainability Director at Co-op, said:
“Our investment in onsite power generation across our estate is part of Co-op’s commitment to playing its role in the transition to Net Zero. This project, alongside increasing our investment in corporate power purchase agreements, is crucial to guaranteeing that the energy we use in our operations is renewable and traceable.”
